Google Quickly Withdraws AI Satellite Image Tool Amid Misinformation Concerns

Google briefly enabled users to create AI-altered satellite images through Google Earth using its Nano Banana 2 generator, then swiftly reversed the feature after examples surfaced showing its potential for misinformation. The tool allowed anyone to modify authentic imagery of real locations, which Google highlighted as a first-of-its-kind capability. Product manager Bryan Horowitz introduced the feature in a July 30 blog post, but the company retracted it shortly afterward.
