AI-generated media is proliferating at an unprecedented pace: Starling Lab estimates that humanity created 1.5 billion images in the 149 years after the camera's invention, while generative AI matched that in just 18 months. Google recently revealed that its tools have generated over 100 billion AI images and videos in a few years.
To address this, Google is expanding adoption of its SynthID watermarking technology to label AI content. However, while the watermark is difficult to remove, it does not solve the broader problem of AI-driven disinformation.
