Google Study Finds AI Use by Workers Remains Collaborative, Not Automated

A new study from Google Research analyzed 15 million anonymized interactions with its Gemini AI tools and found no evidence to support claims that AI is about to cause massive automation or displacement of white-collar jobs. The researchers observed that while AI is used across many occupations, its use remains shallow and overwhelmingly collaborative, with limited end-to-end task automation. The study employed automated classifiers based on Bureau of Labor Statistics and O*NET data, verified by human reviewers, to reliably gauge workplace AI interactions.
