A new Google Research study analyzed 15 million anonymized AI interactions across Gemini products and found no evidence that AI is causing massive automation or displacement of white-collar jobs. Instead, workplace use of AI remains mostly shallow and collaborative, with limited end-to-end task automation.
The researchers classified interactions using official occupational standards and found AI useful for only a subset of tasks. Human review confirmed the findings, suggesting current AI adoption is far from replacing most workers.
