Google Wins Auction for Spirit Airlines Employee Data Amid Privacy Safeguards

Google won an auction to acquire a large dataset of Spirit Airlines' employment and workplace records, though it excludes personal and customer data. To protect privacy, a court-appointed ombudsman will oversee the removal of personally identifying information before the data is transferred. Google has agreed to keep the data de-identified, never attempt to re-identify individuals, and require the same of any third parties granted access.
