Hidden AirTag Reveals Amazon Is Destroying Rare Books for AI Training

Booksellers have long suspected that AI companies are buying large lots of rare books, scanning them, and then destroying them. Now, 404 Media reports that an AirTag hidden inside a rare book from a bulk order was tracked to an Amazon AI training facility in Las Vegas.

That facility, known as VGT3, reportedly housed a team that tore books from their spines and scanned the pages, with a logo on the door showing a Tyrannosaurus rex preparing to devour a book. Amazon declined to comment, offering only a statement that did not specifically mention AI training.
