Hidden AirTag Reveals Amazon Is Destroying Rare Books to Train AI

For over a year, booksellers suspected that AI firms were buying large lots of rare books and destroying them after scanning. 404 Media tracked an AirTag hidden in a rare book to an Amazon AI training facility in Las Vegas, where a team was tearing books from their spines and scanning pages.

A logo on the warehouse door showed a Tyrannosaurus rex preparing to devour a book. Amazon declined to comment, offering only a statement that did not mention AI training.
