Hidden Airtag Ties Amazon to Destruction of Rare Books for AI Training

For over a year, booksellers suspected that AI companies were buying large lots of rare books, scanning them, and then destroying them. Now, 404 Media has confirmed at least one such case by hiding an Airtag inside a rare book from a bulk order and tracking it to an Amazon AI training facility in Las Vegas.

At the facility, a team was seen tearing books from their spines and scanning pages, with a warehouse logo depicting a T. rex preparing to devour a book. Amazon declined to comment on the findings and did not specifically address AI training in its statement.
