Thousands of unionized Hyundai auto workers began a partial strike at the company's Ulsan plant after negotiations over plans to deploy humanoid robots broke down. This is reportedly the first factory stoppage in the car industry addressing humanoid robots.
Workers ended shifts two hours early from July 13 to 15 and plan four-hour strikes from July 20 to 22. The union pushback followed Hyundai's unveiling of the Atlas humanoid robot, a six-foot-tall robot capable of lifting over 100 pounds, made by Boston Dynamics—a company Hyundai is in the process of acquiring.
