IBM Announces World’s First Sub-1 Nanometer Chip Technology for AI Data Centers

IBM has unveiled a new chip architecture that integrates nearly 100 billion transistors on a chip the size of a fingernail, doubling the transistor density of its previous generation. The company claims this is the world’s first sub-1 nanometer chip technology, though it does not physically build features below 1 nanometer; instead, its “nanostack” architecture delivers equivalent performance improvements. Designed for AI data centers, the technology promises significant gains in compute power and energy efficiency.
