A lawsuit filed by 26 former Meta employees claims the company relied on internal artificial intelligence tools—including a system called Metamate, keystroke monitoring, and AI usage dashboards—to select 8,000 workers for layoffs. The plaintiffs allege that the AI-driven process unfairly targeted employees with disabilities or those who had taken protected medical or family leave.
According to the complaint, workers were scored and ranked based on factors such as how much they used Meta's own AI tools, with categories like 'AI Native' and 'AI First'. The suit argues that Meta bypassed human manager judgment and used algorithmic assessments to determine who would be terminated.
