A lawsuit filed by 26 former employees claims Meta used internal AI systems, including a tool called Metamate, to score and rank workers for layoffs, rather than relying on human managers. The complaint alleges that the AI-driven process disproportionately targeted employees with disabilities and those who had taken protected medical or family leave.
According to the lawsuit, Meta also graded workers on their adoption of AI tools, categorizing them as 'AI Native,' 'AI First,' or 'AI Enabled.' The case was filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
