Lawsuit Alleges Meta Used AI to Select Workers for Layoffs, Disadvantaging Those on Medical Leave

A lawsuit filed by 26 former Meta employees alleges that the company used internal AI tools—including a system called Metamate, keystroke monitoring, and AI adoption tracking—to select which 8,000 workers to lay off. The complaint claims this process was biased against employees with disabilities and those who took protected medical or family leave. According to the plaintiffs, Meta relied on algorithmic scoring rather than input from human managers who were familiar with the employees' work.
