Meta announced that it will focus on open-weight large language models, releasing Muse Glimmer and pledging to open the weights of its more powerful Muse Spark 1.2 in the coming weeks. CEO Mark Zuckerberg also published a lengthy essay outlining the company's AI philosophy and governance approach, which he framed as distinct from OpenAI and Anthropic. Those companies develop proprietary models and have lobbied the US government against large-scale distillation and open-weight models from Chinese labs.
