Meta Pushes Open AI Models Again in Latest Bid to Revive Its AI Strategy

Meta announced it will focus on open-weight large language models, releasing a new model called Muse Glimmer and promising to open the weights of its more powerful Muse Spark 1.2 model within weeks. CEO Mark Zuckerberg also published a lengthy essay outlining Meta's AI governance philosophy, which aims to distinguish the company from proprietary-model rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic.

The essay addresses the competitive threat from Chinese labs, particularly around open-weight models and large-scale distillation. These moves represent Meta's latest attempt to reboot its struggling AI strategy.
