Meta announced it will focus on open-weight large language models, releasing a new model called Muse Glimmer and pledging to open the weights of its more powerful Muse Spark 1.2 model in the coming weeks. CEO Mark Zuckerberg also published a lengthy essay outlining the company's approach to AI governance, positioning Meta against proprietary rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic.
These rivals have lobbied the US government for support against distillation and open-weight models from Chinese labs. The move marks another attempt by Meta to reboot its AI strategy.
