Meta revamps struggling AI strategy with fresh open-weight models and Zuckerberg manifesto

Meta announced a renewed focus on open-weight large language models, unveiling the open model Muse Glimmer and pledging to release the weights for its more powerful Muse Spark 1.2 in the coming weeks. CEO Mark Zuckerberg also published a lengthy essay outlining the company's AI philosophy and governance vision, positioning Meta against rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic.

The essay criticizes proprietary AI developers and their lobbying for government help against open-weight models and distillation efforts from Chinese labs. The moves mark another attempt to reset Meta's flagging AI approach.
