OpenAI offers US 5% stake under Trump administration, well below Sanders' target

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is in early talks with the Trump administration about the US acquiring a 5% stake in the company, arguing that giving the public a financial stake is the best way to share the benefits of AI. President Trump supports the idea, and his team has also approached Google and Meta about similar stakes. The offered stake is significantly lower than the level previously targeted by Senator Bernie Sanders.
