OpenAI's First Branded Hardware Is a Light-Up Mini-Keyboard for Monitoring AI Agents

OpenAI has launched its first branded hardware device, the $230 Codex Micro, a specialized mini-keyboard with RGB-lit keys that provide live status updates for up to six Codex agents. Developed in a limited-run collaboration with Work Louder, the keyboard's frosted keys change color to indicate thread states—white for idle, blue for thinking, green for complete, amber for needing human input, and red for errors. A quick tap on a lit key brings the corresponding Codex window into focus, allowing users to manage multiple AI tasks at a glance.
