Pentagon Touts Use of AI to Draft Congressional Reports, Cutting Hundreds of Staff Hours

The U.S. Department of Defense is now using generative AI to write reports required by Congress, a practice its chief technology officer, Emil Michael, proudly described as a major efficiency gain.

Speaking at a Hudson Institute event in June, Michael highlighted how AI tools, available to all military branches via the Pentagon's GenAI.mil platform since December 2025, can draft a congressional report in five hours instead of the usual 200 hours of staffing time. The department initially deployed Google Cloud's Gemini for Government as part of this initiative.
