The US Department of Defense has begun using generative AI tools to write hundreds of reports mandated by Congress each year. Pentagon Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael described the practice at a Hudson Institute event, claiming it reduces staffing time from 200 hours to just five. The AI tools, starting with Google Cloud’s Gemini for Government, have been available to all military branches through the department’s GenAI.mil platform since December 2025.
