Pokémon Go Players Contribute to AI Tech for Delivery and Drones

Niantic Spatial, an AI company spun out of the developers of Pokémon Go, has used billions of images captured by millions of players to develop navigation technologies for delivery robots and potentially military drones. The company trained its AI models using real-world locations scanned by Pokémon Go users through their Scaniverse app, allowing them to create a 3D map of the world. Niantic Spatial emphasizes that the AI models are not copies of the scans, which were just public points of interest, like statues and fountains.
