Proposed AI Kill Switch Act Would Allow Trump Administration to Order Shutdown of Rogue AI Systems

The proposed AI Kill Switch Act would grant the U.S. government authority to order the shutdown of AI systems capable of causing catastrophic harm. Under the bill, AI developers must implement technical capabilities to allow the Department of Homeland Security Secretary to suspend or disable such systems.

Companies that refuse to comply would face fines of up to $20 million per day for each violation.
