A federal judge has largely refused to dismiss Reddit’s copyright lawsuit against SerpApi, a web scraper accused of conspiring with Perplexity AI to illicitly scrape Reddit content from Google search results. Judge Paul A.
Engelmayer ruled that Reddit had plausibly alleged a conspiracy in which SerpApi sold a product designed to bypass Google’s access controls. The decision comes shortly after another court dismissed a similar lawsuit by Google, though Google said it plans to amend its complaint.
SerpApi has argued that both Google and Reddit are improperly using the DMCA to control content they did not create or own.
