A federal judge has largely denied SerpApi’s motion to dismiss Reddit’s lawsuit accusing the web scraper of conspiring with Perplexity AI to illegally scrape copyrighted Reddit content from Google search results. Judge Paul A.
Engelmayer found that Reddit plausibly alleged a conspiracy in which SerpApi provided a product to bypass Google’s access controls and Perplexity paid for it. The ruling came less than two weeks after another court dismissed a similar lawsuit brought by Google, which said it planned to amend its complaint.
SerpApi has argued that Google and Reddit are trying to use the DMCA to wall off the open internet by claiming control over content they did not author or own.
