On Friday, a federal judge largely denied SerpApi's motion to dismiss a lawsuit accusing the web scraper of conspiring with Perplexity AI to illegally scrape copyrighted Reddit content from Google search results. US District Judge Paul A.
Engelmayer ruled that Reddit had plausibly alleged a conspiracy in which SerpApi supplied a tool to bypass Google's access controls and Perplexity paid for it. The ruling came less than two weeks after another court dismissed a similar case by Google, which had failed to show that rights holders authorized the search engine to block scraping.
SerpApi has argued that Google and Reddit are using the DMCA to claim control over content they neither authored nor own.
