Researchers Use AlphaFold AI to Enhance Safety of Gene-Editing Proteins

Gene-editing therapies face safety challenges due to off-target effects, where unintended DNA sequences are edited. To address this, a team modified AlphaFold, an AI protein-folding tool, to identify protein regions responsible for off-target edits.

These regions were then redesigned to reduce errors, improving the safety of gene-editing systems. The findings were published in a recent issue of Nature.
