Samsung Galaxy Buds On: open-ear clip-on design, specifications and official video

Samsung Galaxy Buds On went on sale in South Korea on October 27, 2026. They are the first open-ear, clip-on earbuds in the Galaxy Buds line, sitting around the outer ear rather than sealing the ear canal. Samsung originally unveiled the model on October 1, so the latest development is the retail launch and a new official video, not a first announcement today.

A different listening format, not simply another upgrade

The central idea is to keep music available without cutting off surrounding sound. A front speaker section and a rear battery section are joined by a flexible bridge. Samsung says it used ear-shape data and simulations to balance contact pressure and placement. That explains the design intention; it is not our own confirmation that the fit will suit every listener.

An open design may appeal to people who dislike in-ear tips or frequently talk to others while listening. It should not be read as a promise of quiet on public transport. The point is awareness rather than isolation. Hearing more of the street is also not a safety guarantee: listening volume and the wearer’s attention still matter.

Confirmed sound and battery features

Samsung lists TwinBoost speakers, automatic volume adjustment for the surroundings and Audio Leakage Reduction. The last feature reduces escaped sound rather than eliminating it. The company’s own caveat says leakage varies with playback level, ear shape, fit and ambient noise, and can become more noticeable in quiet settings.

The hardware uses the Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 Sound Platform with a Class-D amplifier. Samsung rates continuous music playback at up to 9.5 hours on a charge. This is the manufacturer’s maximum estimate, not a Vidgetc measurement. It should not automatically be applied to calls, every volume setting or total endurance with the charging case: those are different measures.

For calls, Intelligent Clear Call combines three microphones, a Voice Pickup Unit sensor and machine-learning processing. The sensor detects vibrations associated with the wearer’s voice. That does not make the earbuds a bone-conduction music playback system; the stated role of that component is to help separate speech during calls.

Controls and AI still depend on the connected device

Alongside touch input, the earbuds support voice commands and head gestures, such as nodding to answer a call or shaking the head to decline it. These options can reduce how often a phone needs to come out, but do not mean that every feature operates independently of a phone.

Gemini Live and Quick Voice Memo are presented with compatible Galaxy AI devices. For quick notes, Samsung specifically requires its Voice Recorder and Bixby apps, and the press-and-hold action must be configured. Checking the exact phone and functions you intend to use is therefore more useful than relying on an AI label alone.

This distinction also matters when judging the launch video. A demonstration with a supported Samsung device is not evidence that another phone will provide an identical experience. Buyers should separate basic audio playback from the additional assistant and recording workflow instead of assuming they are one universal feature set.

Korean pricing, international availability and video

The South Korean launch offers a single black version at 299,000 won. Samsung has announced a subsequent phased international rollout, but the primary sources checked do not give a specific US release date or local price. The Korean price is not a US retail quote; converting it into dollars would not establish its eventual US list price.

The official Introducing Galaxy Buds On | Samsung video was published on October 27 and shows the fit and everyday use cases. It is a manufacturer presentation, not an independent review.

Real-world sound, leakage at a listener’s normal volume and long-term fit remain questions for hands-on testing. Buds On are best understood as another approach to everyday listening, not an automatically superior choice for everyone.

Where to check US availability

A US Galaxy Buds On purchase listing and US price were not established in the sources checked on October 28. Samsung’s US audio catalog is linked below as a place to check the lineup, not as a confirmed Galaxy Buds On sales offer. A Korean launch does not establish US availability.
