Designers Isaque Seneda and Gabriel Abrucio have created ShieldFont, a font intended to protect webpages from AI scrapers. It uses ligatures to replace words in the underlying HTML with altered versions, while displaying the original readable text to human visitors.
This means scrapers that pull plaintext source code receive nonsensical content, rendering the data less useful for AI training. The designers describe it as a practical opt-out from unauthorized AI training.
