Mac has a gaming library of its own, but it is easier to build around specific games than around a promise to run the entire Windows catalogue. These six choices cover action, a substantial role-playing campaign, farming, space exploration and turn-based strategy.
Each publisher lists a macOS version on Steam. This is a selection of games already available, not a calendar of unannounced ports: platform support and requirements were checked on 18 October 2026.
What a Mac version actually tells you Here, a Mac game means a separate macOS version, rather than a Windows build that you have to run through a compatibility layer. That does not mean every Apple computer is supported. Some games require Apple silicon; others list Intel hardware. Nor does a Mac badge establish support for every new macOS release or promise a particular frame rate.
Start with About This Mac and note the processor, memory and operating system. Compare these with the macOS requirements specifically, not the Windows tab beside them. Minimum requirements are the publisher’s stated lower boundary, not a promise of high settings. We have not performed performance testing and do not attach invented benchmark results to these recommendations.
Hades: action built around repeated attempts The original Hades suits players who enjoy relatively short runs, active combat and gradually learning different weapons. A failed attempt is not the end of the adventure: returning is part of its structure. It offers a useful contrast to a large RPG in which a single conversation can occupy a substantial part of a session.
Steam’s Mac requirements list macOS 10.13.6, 4 GB of RAM and Intel HD 5000 graphics with Metal support. The publisher also lists Mac generations. Those details distinguish the game from its more demanding sequel, but they do not replace checking your particular model and current operating system.
Hades II: specifically for Apple silicon Consider the sequel separately if you want a newer action game featuring Melinoë, magic and a different set of combat possibilities. It is an already released game, not a future promise of Mac support. Do not recommend it automatically to an Intel Mac owner simply because the original listed Intel configurations.
Steam explicitly requires an Apple processor for Hades II: the minimum is an M1, macOS 12, 8 GB of memory and 11 GB of available storage. The recommended configuration is higher: an M1 Pro, 16 GB and macOS 15. The distinction between the two games demonstrates why compatibility belongs to a particular release, not just to a franchise name.
Baldur’s Gate 3: a substantial campaign and storage commitment This is the choice for a lengthy role-playing adventure, exploration, conversations and tactical battles. The attraction is settling into a campaign rather than quickly finishing a level. Before installing, check storage: the listed requirement is 150 GB of available space, and an SSD is required.
Steam lists an M1, 8 GB of memory and macOS 14.7.1 or newer as the Mac minimum. Its recommendation moves to an M1 Pro or better and 16 GB. There is also a specific split-screen warning: the minimum configuration will not provide acceptable performance in that mode, according to the publisher. Expectations for solo play should not automatically carry over to local co-op.
Stardew Valley: a slower pace and a small installation Farming, meeting residents, fishing and gradually improving a homestead make Stardew Valley an alternative to action games. Choose it for the appeal of planning your own day and developing a small world, rather than graphical spectacle.
The Mac listing specifies 2 GB of memory, a 2 GHz processor and 500 MB of storage. Its stated storage requirement is considerably smaller than Baldur’s Gate 3’s. Older wording in a requirements list should nevertheless not be treated as a blanket guarantee for every modern configuration. Consult support if your setup differs from the described system.
No Man’s Sky: exploration rather than a fixed route Space travel, discovering planets and building bases suit players who prefer choosing their own direction. For this selection, the relevant fact is the confirmed Mac version, rather than the trailer for a particular update. This is not a repeat of a news story about an individual content patch.
Steam’s current Mac requirements list macOS Monterey 12.3, an Intel i5, 8 GB of memory and Radeon Pro 570X 4 GB graphics. That listing is not enough to derive equivalent performance for every M-series chip. Apple silicon users should check the developer’s guidance for their configuration instead of treating GPU names as directly interchangeable.
Civilization VII: planning over reflexes Turn-based play gives you time to think, but it does not automatically mean modest hardware requirements. Civilization VII is worth considering if developing a civilization and making successive strategic decisions appeals more than practising reflexes. Steam confirms a Mac version and does not list Intel as its minimum configuration.
The stated minimum is an Apple M1, 8 GB of memory, macOS Sequoia and 25 GB of storage. The recommendation is an M2 Pro with 16 GB. Check both your available storage and whether your Mac supports the required operating system before choosing it.
