South Korea’s government and leading tech companies are committing $1 trillion to major projects aimed at boosting global memory chip supply, constructing new AI data centers, and enabling commercial deployment of humanoid robots by 2028. The investment follows record profits for Samsung and SK Hynix, driven by surging AI demand that has led to memory chip shortages and higher consumer electronics prices.
Hyundai Motor Company, through its subsidiary Boston Dynamics, is racing to mass-produce humanoid robots for labor-intensive tasks in automotive factories and other workplaces. President Lee Jae Myung stated that semiconductors, physical AI, and AI data centers are the three pillars necessary for the nation’s technological leap forward.
