The Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for connecting AI systems to external tools and data sources, received its largest update since its introduction. The protocol core is now stateless, meaning requests no longer depend on a session tied to an individual server instance.

This change addresses long-standing barriers to scalability, making MCP more suitable for enterprise adoption. The announcement was made by lead maintainers David Soria Parra and Den Delimarsky, who both work at Anthropic.
