Surgeons Use Teleoperated Humanoid Robots to Perform World-First Surgery on Live Pigs

In a landmark medical experiment, humanoid robots have successfully removed gallbladders from live pigs, but not autonomously—skilled surgeons remotely controlled the robots' movements. The teleoperated system, costing a fraction of specialized surgical robots and requiring less operating room space, could eventually enable robotic-assisted surgery in rural clinics, on battlefields, or even in space. The preclinical trial was published in Nature, and researchers believe the approach could expand access to minimally invasive procedures.
