Taiwan, facing potential invasion by China, is ramping up domestic drone production and training. The Ministry of National Defense proposed a $6.6 billion budget to buy over 208,000 coastal attack drones, 1,400 reconnaissance drones, and 1,320 uncrewed vessels from 2026 to 2031, significantly expanding its current arsenal of 5,000 US-made and domestic drones.
Taiwanese firms are also forming international partnerships to sell drones to the U.S. military and other buyers. Recent exercises have tested both US-made Altius-600 loitering munitions and Taiwan-made drones for maritime strikes.
