The Trump administration has intervened in a Clean Air Act lawsuit filed by the NAACP against Elon Musk's xAI, arguing that the lawsuit threatens a data center powering the Grok AI system used by the military. The NAACP originally sued in April, alleging xAI operated 27 gas turbines without air permits in Southaven, Mississippi; that number rose to 57 by mid-May, with plans for two more.
The turbines power the Colossus 2 data center that runs the chatbot Grok, and local residents have raised health and noise concerns. The administration seeks to block the lawsuit to ensure continued military access to Grok.
