The Trump administration is intervening to help Elon Musk's xAI Corp. dismiss a Clean Air Act lawsuit filed by the NAACP, arguing that the legal action threatens a data center powering the Grok chatbot, which the military relies on.
The NAACP sued xAI and its subsidiary MZX Tech in April, accusing them of operating 27 gas turbines without an air permit in Southaven, Mississippi, with the number of unpermitted turbines later rising to 57 and plans for two more.
The facility powers xAI's Colossus data center, which runs the Grok AI system, and has sparked health concerns and noise complaints from nearby residents.
