Trump administration seeks to block Clean Air Act lawsuit against Elon Musk's xAI over gas turbines

The Trump administration is intervening in a Clean Air Act lawsuit filed by the NAACP against Elon Musk’s xAI, arguing the case threatens a data center that powers the Grok chatbot, which is used by the U.S. military.

The NAACP sued xAI and its subsidiary in April, alleging they operated 27 gas turbines without an air permit in Southaven, Mississippi; that number grew to 57 by mid-May, with plans for two more. The turbines power the Colossus 2 data center that runs Grok, and have sparked health concerns and noise complaints from nearby residents.
