President Donald Trump’s initiative to redesign every U.S. government website using artificial intelligence is reportedly failing. The National Design Studio, created by executive order in August 2025, was tasked with overhauling 27,000 dot-gov sites within three years.
However, the effort has been hampered by deep cuts from DOGE to key agencies like the 18F technology unit and the U.S. Digital Service. The resulting AI-generated designs have been widely criticized as unusable and unattractive.
