Trump’s AI-Driven Overhaul of Government Websites Produces Disastrous Results

President Trump’s initiative to redesign every .gov website using artificial intelligence is faltering. The National Design Studio, created by executive order in August 2025, was tasked with updating 27,000 federal sites in three years, but the small team faces an impossible timeline.

The effort has been further hampered by DOGE’s deep cuts to existing technology units, including the dismantling of the 18F team and restructuring of the U.S. Digital Service.

Early AI-generated designs have been widely criticized as unusable and visually jarring.
