President Donald Trump’s plan to use artificial intelligence to overhaul all 27,000 U.S. government websites is failing. Created by executive order in August 2025, the National Design Studio was tasked with updating the federal design system within three years.
However, the initiative was undermined by DOGE’s deep cuts to agencies like 18F and the U.S. Digital Service. The resulting AI-designed websites have been widely criticized as unusable and visually unappealing.
