US Army Exhausts 'Unlimited' AI Tokens Within a Month, Imposes New Use Limits

The US Army's promise of unlimited AI tokens collapsed in mid-June 2026, just weeks after the Army CIO announced the policy, as employees burned through a full year's supply. An internal email to the Army's Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) stated that the token pool was exhausted, forcing a re-establishment of usage limits.

The Army uses the Ask Sage platform, which runs models like Gemini, Llama, and ChatGPT. Although tokens have been temporarily renewed, it remains unclear whether funding will continue beyond October 1.
