The US Army's Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) informed employees that a months-long supply of AI tokens had been exhausted in just a few weeks, reversing a previous promise of unlimited access. Despite the Army CIO's May 2026 announcement of unlimited tokens, the pool was depleted by mid-June, forcing the reinstatement of usage caps.
The tokens are used for the Ask Sage platform, which operates large language models like Gemini and ChatGPT. An Army employee stated that the entire service burned through what was meant to last a year, and it remains unclear whether the token pool will be renewed after October 1.
