The US Federal Communications Commission has added foreign-produced advanced robotic devices to its Covered List, effectively banning foreign-made robots over national security concerns. The ban covers a wide range of robots, including Chinese humanoid and four-legged robots as well as robot vacuum cleaners.
The FCC cited previously discovered cybersecurity vulnerabilities in robots made by Chinese companies. The decision followed a determination by an executive branch interagency body convened by the White House, as the FCC is required to follow direction from a qualifying national security authority.
