US Export Controls Prompt Anthropic to Take Advanced AI Models Offline

Anthropic removed its Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models from public access after a US government export-control directive prohibited any foreign national from using them. The company is in ongoing talks with the White House to reach an agreement that would allow the services to be reinstated. Anthropic has warned that the models possess advanced dual-use capabilities, beneficial for cybersecurity defense but also exploitable by malicious actors, and initially released a preview version to a select consortium before launching a restricted public version.
