Verizon Touts $1B Google Dark Fiber Deal, Signals More AI Deals Ahead

Verizon is pushing deeper into AI infrastructure with a deal worth more than $1 billion to connect Google data centers using its dark fiber network. The company also is converting central offices into small data centers for AI inference workloads by removing copper wiring. CEO Dan Schulman announced the agreement and the broader “AI Connect” initiative during Verizon’s Q2 2026 earnings call, and said additional AI-related deals worth multiple billions of dollars in revenue over the next several years could be announced by year’s end.
