The most useful preparation for World of Warcraft: Forever is deciding what you want from your first evening. A familiar landscape can tempt returning players to repeat old routines, while newcomers may assume they need an expensive edition before starting. Both deserve a clearer checklist.
Blizzard scheduled the global launch for November 4, 2026, at 23:00 UTC: November 5 at 01:00 in Kyiv. That time has passed, but this guide does not independently confirm server availability or queue conditions. It is based on official documentation, not hands-on testing.
Choose Forever, then choose your pace
Blizzard positions Forever as a permanent experience alongside modern WoW and Classic. Treat it as a fresh journey rather than an instruction to resume an old expansion checklist. In Battle.net, select World of Warcraft: Forever from the game-version menu.
Decide whether the evening is for exploring, learning a class, or playing with friends. A small objective makes it easier to judge whether you enjoy the experience. Reaching an arbitrary level before bed tells you less than discovering whether you like its everyday rhythm.
Subscription first, upgrades only if wanted
Access is included with an active WoW subscription or Game Time. The Skyborne race and Zephras Isle starting experience require the Skyborne Heroic Pack or higher. These upgrades are optional for entering Forever, but they are not entirely cosmetic.
The official upgrade terms include 30 days of Game Time with the Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection; continuing afterwards requires more paid time. Compare regional prices and included benefits before buying. If your goal is simply to try the game with a standard race, check your existing entitlement before paying for another bundle.
Agree with friends before creating characters
The grouping rules require the same faction and ruleset. Put those choices in your group chat before anyone becomes attached to a character. “We are all playing Forever” is not enough coordination.
Discuss expectations too: will everyone wait for the slowest player, read quests, or play independently between shared sessions? A short agreement prevents the familiar problem of one enthusiastic friend racing ahead while another cannot find time to catch up.
Plan around the journey from 1 to 60
Blizzard promises more than 1,000 new quests across levels 1–60, without flying mounts or level scaling. Its announced roadmap schedules new raid unlocks for December 9. There is room to plan something more interesting than a launch-night sprint.
Choose a region or story that catches your attention, leave time for detours, and review your supplies before a longer excursion. Changed talents and itemization also make old Classic build guides a starting point for questions rather than guaranteed instructions. Read the abilities your character actually has before copying a rotation from memory.
Make the interface comfortable
The starter guide explains the Classic and Enhanced presentation presets; individual settings remain adjustable. The Classic preset is a presentation choice inside Forever, not a switch to the separate WoW Classic game.
Spend a few minutes checking readable text, comfortable bindings and the settings relevant to your accessibility needs. Change one thing at a time, then try a short encounter. This makes it easier to identify what helped instead of rebuilding your entire interface before knowing what bothers you.
A controller still needs a keyboard nearby
Official gamepad support remains in beta. Blizzard specifies XInput-compatible controllers, customizable controls and keyboard input for chat. Do not assume that controller support means every task is keyboard-free.
If you are considering buying a controller specifically for this game, borrow one first if possible. Personal comfort is difficult to judge from a feature list. Keep a familiar input method available while experimenting, and avoid making the first group session depend on hardware you have barely used.
Keep the first session manageable
The Legacy system can reward progression without requiring alternate characters. Start with one character if that suits your available time. Finish the evening with one useful note: something you enjoyed, a setting to fix, or a place to revisit. That is a better foundation for returning than turning a new game into immediate homework.
