Humanoid Robot Games Highlight Speed Records and Spectacular Failures

Videos from the World Humanoid Robot Games show sprinting robots beating Usain Bolt's 100-meter record, but also crashing into barriers and falling due to difficulty stopping, with some breaking apart or catching fire. The second edition of the event, held in Beijing from August 22–26, featured races, kung fu, dance, kickboxing, soccer, and table tennis.

Robots also attempted practical tasks like laundry, but were slower than typical human workers. The games, supported by Chinese state media and the Beijing city government, aim to showcase the commercial potential of humanoid robots amid China's rapid robotics development.
