Viral clips from the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing showed humanoid sprinters beating Usain Bolt's 100-meter record, but also crashing into barriers, falling, and even catching fire. The second annual event, held August 22–26, included races, martial arts, dance, kickboxing, soccer, and table tennis.
Robots also faced practical tasks like laundry, where they worked far slower than humans. Organizers, including Chinese state media and the Beijing city government, aimed to highlight the commercial promise of humanoid robots as China's robotics industry accelerates.
