AI’s Career Toll Falls Hardest on Entry-Level Workers, Stanford Study Finds

New research from Stanford economists finds that AI is increasingly displacing entry-level workers, with employment among 22-to-25-year-olds in AI-exposed occupations now 19 percent below peers in less-exposed fields, up from a 13 percent gap last year. The updated August 2026 edition of “Canaries in the Coal Mine?” shows the trend is persisting and expanding. Older workers, by contrast, remain largely unaffected so far.
