Anthropic Disables Fable 5 and Mythos 5 After US Export Control Order

Anthropic abruptly shut down access to its newly launched Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models on Friday night following a directive from the US Commerce Department that subjected the models to export controls. The company stated that the only way to immediately comply with the government order was to disable the models for all customers. According to an Axios report, the administration was concerned about a reported jailbreak that bypassed safeguards on cybersecurity, chemistry, and biology prompts, and requested a pause to harden the national security apparatus, a process expected to take weeks.
